A year later I would continue to recommend him to anybody
I had a deck built by Brian Young 1 year ago. There was no stress. The contract was followed. There were no hidden charges. Brian seemed to make amazing progress every day. Yeah, there was a lot of sawdust but you expect that when you use real wood. Brian had arrived at the initial interview with wood samples and I chose a renewable South American hardwood that continues to impress visitors. Brian demonstrated the highest ethics as well as the lowest bid. A year later I would continue to recommend him to anybody. At the very least include him in your initial interviews in your bidding process.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST DECK CONTRACTOR!!!!! If there were 10 stars available, I would have rated OC Deck and Patio a ten! We just finished our 1,650 square foot deck project with OC Deck and Patio and are THRILLED with how the entire process went! From start to finish, every single aspect went PERFECTLY.We were very tight on time to get our deck built when we met Brian Young, owner. Our daughter Samantha, was due to get married on the future deck June 3 and it was mid March! Many contractors had said the project could not be done in time. Brian said it could. Right away we liked Brian and as we chatted we gained confidence in his ability to do this. Even though he looks young, he is VERY experienced in doing decks, and he had a great attitude about our project. His price was almost exactly the same as other bids we received but we chose him because we felt he had the experience, excitement about our project, and temperament required to deal with our steep, difficult hillside in North Tustin, and our proposed steel framed Trex deck. Brian and his crews got started immediately. He had double crews digging for over two weeks, because we needed 14′ deep caissons, 11 of them! Plus, plus, plus. He handled literally every single step of our project as if everything was going just fine, even though they encounterer rocks, broken drill bits, and so on. Never once did we have ANYYYYY problem or issue with our project at all! Plus, his guys never offended neighbors, never damaged anything, and were never late! He must have THE MOST experienced crew I have ever seen! We are SOOO thrilled that we chose Brian and OC Deck and Patio to build our deck!!The final test was Samantha and Mark’s wedding. We had 95 guests seated at tables all over the deck. We also had a huge band and huge dance floor. At one point about midnight during the crazy dancing, the band —–who had not performed on a big residential hillside deck and were nervous beforehand—-announced “Let’s test out this new awesome deck! JUMP, JUMP, JUMMMMMP!!!””” With 95 crazy dancing friends and family pounding on it, we looked at each other and smiled, knowing we had DEFINITELY made the right choice in our deck contractor!!! We used OC Deck & Patio for 2 projects. For the first project we had Brian build a patio cover
and a pergola. He did such a fine job so we reached out to him 6 months later to build a large
privacy screen and relocate some shade sail posts. What we like most about OC Deck & Patio, is
the attention to detail, high level of expertise, and flexibility in service.Our pergola was meant
to be phase 2 of our master landscaping plan, but since our landscaper only did a mediocre job with
the wood work and charged a high premium for material like cedar we looked elsewhere and found OC
Deck & Patio. Even though we were in North County San Diego, Brian was willing to squeeze us in
while a major project was waiting on a permit. The first job was 3 days work and the second was 1.
We were given a rough estimate of the cost on the phone, but he came down to have a thorough
discussion without any commitment.While having initial discussions Brian provided his suggestions
and thoughts on our design and provided details on recommended changes. BTW, it’s best that
you come up some initial design ideas, because Brian’s strength doesn’t come from
designing from scratch. It comes from you providing pictures and ideas and him applying his skill
and knowledge to achieve that design. As I mentioned flexibility of service was another key factor.
We were on a tight budget and to reduce costs we performed some of the simpler tasks such as sanding
and pre-staining the wood. Brian did not have any issues with this approach. Brian provided a
precise list of materials which we took to JW Lumber and arranged for delivery so there was no
padding on costs. We tried to get a bid from our landscaper and could tell that he did not like that
approach. In fact the landscaper probably wouldn’t touch such a small job, if it weren’t
for the fact that it’s the second part of landscaping for a new house. We both work from home
and during construction, Brian would be sure to stop and consult with us if any key decisions were
needed. As much as you discuss the plan ahead of time, when you start to build you may notice
something that needs to be changed. For instance on the privacy screen project, although the picture
showed a lattice design with horizontal slats in back and vertical slats in front, when Brian went
to construct that portion he saw that it was aesthetically better to have the opposite. He took the
time to stop and run that decision by us and we agreed that the change should be done.
We once had an electrician install an outdoor outlet where our BBQ will be built one day. He
installed it facing one direction without clarifying or asking us, and then when we told him we
wanted it facing the other direction he said he’d have to charge us extra to switch it. This
is not a type of problem that we ever encountered with Brian.Our pergola was built in our front
courtyard and the moment it was done we had neighbors asking who had built that for us and telling
us that it looked great! We’ve had OC Deck & Patio complete 2 jobs and would not hesitate
to hire them again.

They built a 400 square foot deck out if Azek. It went very well. The only issue we had to wait was waiting on Azek to deliver the white facia boards. What I appreciate is Brian’s honesty and integrity. The framing was not done to his satisfaction and he redid it without hesitation or cost to me. Not being a contractor I would have never known the difference but he did. That alone sealed my trust in him and demonstrated his pride in workmanship. There were other situations in which he never assumed but asked if we would like something a certain way even though the drawing illustrated something different.. It is a breath of fresh air to find a contractor that is honest, starts on time, is there when he says, and completes the work in a timely manner. And even when there was a problem a couple of months after Brian didn’t hesitate to return and remedy the problem. I highly recommend him. and would hire him again.

OC Deck&Patio, gave us exactly what we asked for. We were looking for a modern update that was functional. We were amazed how meticulous they were at getting us the best possible look within our budget. They really listen to what your vision is, and are upfront and honest with you if your vision exceeds your budget.
The Project Objective:
1 give this 1940’s house a modern update
2 and off-center gate allowing us to open the gate with little effort to be able to take the garbage
cans out to the street, without letting our dogs loose.
3 push the gate back on the driveway to allow plenty of parking without opening the gate

A very talented and capable builder
We had out deck/patio designed and built by OC Deck and Patio last summer. After interviewing several builders, we decided to work with Brian, the owner of OC Deck and Patio. We are BEYOND thrilled with the job he did. He helped us through the permitting/city zoning process and once that was over, they got right into the construction. The team was there everyday on time, and were very good about cleaning up at the end of each day. OC Deck and Patio did an absolutely outstanding job. The design that Brian came up with is so clean and beautiful – everyone who visits loves it. We have gained 2 new wonderful areas to hang out and we spend a lot of time outside enjoying the wonderful spaces that Brian created. Also very important to us, Brian is a really nice, down to earth guy and he was really great to work with. He is a very talented and capable builder, and we could not be happier with our final result. We recommend OC Deck and Patio whole-heartedly to create your new beautiful space!

After meeting with multiple companies we knew right away we were going with OC Deck & Patio! The owner, Brian Young, understood from the very first meeting what we were trying to achieve. He and his crew were on time and worked diligently to get the job done…did I mention they had to haul materials uphill a 1/4 mile! Even with a few last minute changes, Brian and his crew stepped up and made it happen. I would hire them back in a minute if we ever have another project. It isn’t often that you find someone you can work with easily and immediately feel like you can trust.

They do beautiful work
Brian at OC Deck & Patio built a covered patio and deck at our house with Ipe railing and stainless cables. First it was difficult to find someone to quote the complete project with the stainless cable system. Brian did a fantastic job. We are so happy with the final project. He is easy to work with. The project did run a bit longer that quoted but we stayed on budget, true to the original quote. We would recommend OC Deck & Patio to anyone looking to build a patio/ deck. They do beautiful work. I interviewed several deck companies and I knew when I hired Brian at OC Deck & Patio that I had made a good decision. His workers showed up on time and were polite and very hard working. We did, they just completed it, and again they did an amazing job for us. We just had our deck and patio cover replaced and Brian and his team did a WONDERFUL job! Our deck and patio cover were over 35 years old and falling apart and very dangerous. We used the Trex deck flooring, on the balcony, and just love it! No more termite damage to that! Brian was very professional and explained every part of the process to get them replaced. His team was very courteous and did a great job taking care of our place while they worked. We paid the price we were told and we felt it was very fair and the job took about a month (rain got in way a few times). My husband and I love our new deck and patio cover; they look beautiful! After meeting with several general contractors, I didn’t get the feeling that they understood the scope and scale of my project. The front entry was moving upstairs and the deck was to connect the house to the garage. This was all new construction. Because this was a structural project, I needed someone that specialized doing decks with concrete foundations. Brian Young recently completed a 170 sq.ft. , 2nd story wooden balcony to my house, utilizing wood decking and aluminum/glass railings. The final outcome was a solid, well-built and attractive balcony. I was very impressed by the patience and time Brian always gave me in thoroughly addressing all my questions and concerns and in providing me with design suggestions and advice, based on his experience. I never felt that I was rushed or that I was wasting his time. A few simple examples of what Brian did for me on this project was his use of the Tiger Claw (no other contractor offered this) and his suggestion of wood beam sizes for my balcony design to achieve a more substantial and aesthetic look. My initial impression and gut feelings of Brian proved to be correct , in that Brian is a man of his word, was someone I could trust and depend and who would always maintain a pleasant disposition when interacting with his clients. These are all qualities which I considered in making my decision on who to hire from the eight plus contractors whom I met. Brian Young of OC Deck & Patio has recently completed a tile deck above my rear patio, and I am very pleased with the results. My home in Rancho Penasquitos is located in a brush management zone, which made the building permit process much more stringent and complicated, but Brian worked tirelessly with the building officials for several weeks until he had a design which satisfied both the city and myself. After receiving the permits Brian built a very high quality and extremely durable deck, often working ten and twelve hour days in the process. He consistently used high quality materials. Although he could have increased his profits by selecting lower grade components, but still charged me a fair and competitive price. Brian is a meticulous and highly skilled craftsman and I would strongly recommend him for any residential construction project.
